I used to attend an English institution at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. This was the best time of my life! the institution was full of international students from many different countries. Japan, China, Columbia, France, Russia, Mexico and some other countries. It was really interesting to make friendships with people from different countries especially if you're interested in knowing others' cultures and faiths. I mean it's really cool to hang out with people who have a different way of thinking because it helps you to be more open minded. My best friend was from Japan, and we had really good times together. One time, I went with my Japanese friends to Seattle, and I really liked how Japanese people manage their trips. It's like they do math :) to go as many places as they could in a short time! I remember that they made a plan every morning on where we'll go and when. We went everywhere in Seattle in only two days! Another thing that I liked about making friends from different countries is that now I have friends in some countries that I want to visit. Therefore, when it's time to visit one of those countries I'll have someone to show me around and spend the time with.

Self-Sufficiency
One of the things that I gained since I left home is self-sufficiency. I'm a kind of person who used to depend on his father to do almost everything, or actually my father didn't want me to do things by myself, and he always wanted to help because he believed that I was young and inexperienced. For example, I used to tell my father whenever my car needed to be fixed, and he took care of everything! which he wanted it this way but I didn't even though some people thought that was a good thing. Also, I wasn't really allowed to travel by myself without my family, and I always wanted to travel with my friends but my father didn't allow me to do so because he was extremely worried about me. When I became 18, I found out that I can't do so many things by myself which I thought that was a shame! so I thought it was time to do EVERYTHING by myself, and I thought the best way to that is to live away from my father. I really love my father, and I know that he did all that for me; however, in Saudi we live with our parents and our parents are responsible for us UNTIL we get married! Therefore, I got to do something because I didn't want to grow up depending on my father to do my things. So I applied to study abroad in the U.S., and I got the chance to do so. After 2 years of living in the U.S. BY MYSELF, now I'm completely satisfied about myself. I can do everything no matter what by myself without asking anybody for help. Well, I do mistakes sometimes; however, I will never learn to do anything if I don't do mistakes and learn from my mistakes. Now, I can take care of my things, and I'm completely responsible for myself!
Hopefully you guys learned something from this :)
